Hideo Kojima is truly a tease, and that’s something he’s been pretty good at in terms of keeping fans at bay on when exactly he’ll be releasing his next game in the long running Metal Gear Solid series, Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain. Through each update made since the true nature of the sequel was announced in the 2013 Game Developers’ Conference, it was clear that the head of Kojima Productions had a grand vision in mind for his latest stealth action game baby, and that involved making it the most immersive and expansive entry in the series to date.

Now with this year’s annual Tokyo Game Show event happening this week, fans are once again treated to a new trailer for the game, one that not only features main character Snake and his allies, but one of the new character’s appearing in the series for the first time – the mysterious and mute sniper known as “Quiet“. In the new footage shown for TGS, the silent and controversial looking shooter makes a grand entrance to Mother Base and displays some of her powers for the first time. She then encounters series’ mainstays Kazuhira Miller, Ocelot, and of course the lead himself Snake, aka Big Boss.

Here’s the new TGS ’14 trailer, which is currently in Japanese. A link to the English trailer will be added once Konami makes one available online.

Following the release of the cinematic trailer online, Kojima also made an appearance at TGS and announced that the game would definitely be released in 2015. When exactly during that year is still a mystery, but trust the japanese developer and his company of Kojima Productions to deliver a solid product everyone can be happy about. After releasing the prologue chapter that was “Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes” earlier this year, people had a taste of what kind of action and gameplay fans can get with the new proprietary “Fox Engine” that powers the sequels. According to Kojima, The Phantom Pain will be “200 times bigger than Ground Zeroes”, and will be an open-world game that allows players to explore and do just about anything to infiltrate and engage enemies and complete mission objectives in hostile territory.

Speaking of gameplay, Kojima also demoed a 20 minute plus playthrough of the game featuring an African Jungle location.

Set primarily in 1984, MGS V: The Phantom Pain continues the story of the legendary soldier Big Boss, otherwise formerly known as “Naked Snake” from Operation: Snake Eater (Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater). Sometime after the events of Ground Zeroes in 1975, Snake falls into a coma and wakes up nine years later in a hospital bed and with his left arm missing. Eventually making a recovery, he reunites with his former rival Ocelot and rescues his old comrade Kazuhira “Kaz” Miller from captivity in Afghanistan. Reunited with his allies and building a new army called the “Diamond Dogs“, the man called Big Boss and now “Venom Snake” seeks a day of reckoning against those who wronged him and his comrades.
