Comic Book fans who are very much looking forward to another superhero television series are going to be in for a treat, as the in development “Supergirl” for the CBS network has found its star… And it’s another talent from the musical program sensation “Glee” to boot!
According to Hitflix and DC Comics, “Glee” and “Whiplash” star Melissa Benoist has been given the lead role to the new DC TV Series being developed by Berlanti Productions, DC Entertainment, and Warner Bros. – the same companies behind The CW’s stellar superhero programs “Arrow” and “The Flash“. Playing the part of Kara Zor-El, aka Superman’s cousin and another refugee from the ill-fated Planet Krypton, “Supergirl” will focus on the 24-year old teenager as she struggles to hide her powers from her adopted new home of Earth, but sees the need to embrace her destiny as a hero when others need her help and she has the ability to make a difference.
Much like her Glee co-star Grant Gustin (aka The Flash), Benoist is another musical alum who will be making the transition to heroics. How she performs onscreen remains to be seen, as no date has been given yet on when “Supergirl” will be soaring into CBS and television sets. Stay tuned for more news as this story and the show develops.
