UPDATE: Sony has DENIED the Latino-Revies rumor, saying it “holds no validity whatsoever”. (source Comic Book Resources).
Original Story: Take this report with a BIG GRAIN OF SALT at the moment… But it would be foolhardy to deny the prospect of actually bringing a certain webslinging hero into the pantheon of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and giving fans what they’ve long desired – Spider-Man amidst the Avengers and the rest of the Marvel Universe in film!
According to a weekly column report by Latino-Review’s Dave Gonzalez and reported by Comic Book Movie, it appears that the big talks and negotiations between Sony and Marvel have finally wrapped up, and a deal has been reached to introduce Peter Parker/ Spider-Man into the Marvel Cinematic Universe fold! Whether that means current Spidey actor Andrew Garfield returns or is recast is anyone’s guess, but this rumor comes on the heels of whispers of actually rebooting or getting the webslinger alongside Earth’s Mightiest Heroes, and it’s been in the gossip mill for months.
If you’ve been following entertainment news and headlines, Sony entered early discussions with the House of Ideas to bring the wallcrawler to the Marvel Studios’ fold after a recent hack with the media giant showed criticism in the handling of the webslinging hero in his recent cinematic portrayals. Many fans have been hoping for Spidey’s inclusion in the MCU, which would open doors in properly adapting storylines that saw the superhero included in the mix. Civil War for instance had the webslinger caught right in the middle of things, Supporting the Superhero Registration Act and consequently revealing his identity to the public and then switching sides in a war that saw Captain America and his anti-registration allies battling the government and pro-registration forces led by Iron Man.
However, the report mentions that the window for Spidey’s inclusion to the MCU missed “Captain America: Civil War“, making his next likely bet to be introduced in “Avengers: Infinity War Part 1“. That’s going to be in the midst of what is reported to be a “big roster change” in the wake of the “big shake up” that will happen in this year’s “Avengers: Age Of Ultron“, which will affect the current roster of Avengers AND specifically the big three Captain America, Iron Man, and Thor. The Latino-Report story also gives a POSSIBLE SPOILER on what happens during and after “Captain America: Civil War” and “Thor: Ragnarok“, which is why Spider-Man’s appearance in Infinity War is perfectly timed as well.
Again, these aren’t confirmed reports and you should take this story as a BIG RUMOR for now until official confirmation (or debunking of the story) comes from Marvel.
Avengers: Infinity War is still a long way and due 2018/ 2019. In the meantime, catch the next Marvel Cinematic Universe film with Avengers: Age of Ultron on May 1, 2015!
