Looks like a big rumor concerning DC Movies may indeed be coming true based on a new story Deadline has posted – as Ben Affleck will reported by set to write, direct, and star in a new standalone “Batman” film that will be set in the same DC Cinematic Universe that follows his introduction in next year’s “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice”!
According to the report, Affleck will co-write the film with DC Entertainment’s very own Chief Creative Officer and Green Lantern/ Justice League comics writer Geoff Johns, with a release date set after BvS and the first Justice League film for 2017. While no official announcement or details have been released by Warner Bros., it is San Diego Comic-Con week and the company has a panel presentation on Saturday that features Affleck, Zack Snyder, and the rest of the Batman v Superman cast and crew. If any announcement or teaser is to be made, that will certainly be the time to present and confirm things there… And other matters not yet reported that may just surprise comic book and movie fans!
The Deadline report holds on strong for the Affleck/ Johns combo, especially with the latter scribe having written his own treatment of the Batman Universe in the form of Batman: Earth One, which recently released its second volume this year. If this new film on The Dark Knight plants itself into the already huge line-up Warner Bros. has for its DC Cinematic Universe, fans will see another Batman outing that sees Batfleck taking the spotlight without any of his JL contemporaries around.
Catch Ben Affleck’s debut as the new Batman when Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice hits theaters on March 25 next year, and alongside the Justice League on November 2017.
