It’s been quite a while since we’ve seen American actor, writer, and producer Matt Damon play his signature role of Jason Bourne in the big screen. The last time he weathered the storm of espionage, danger, and action, it was during 2007’s The Bourne Ultimatum, where the character effectively disappeared to “parts unknown” and succeeded in exposing those who were behind the program that made him into the expert operative that he is. In 2012, Avengers star and Hawkeye actor Jeremy Renner took over for the series interim installment by playing the character Aaron Cross in the spinoff “The Bourne Legacy“.
Now it’s official that Jason Bourne will be returning, as Damon and director Paul Greengrass reunite for a fifth entry of the franchise that still doesn’t have an official title revealed. Shooting has officially commenced as production began on September 8, and the first official still revealed by producer Frank Marshall on his Twitter shows Damon back as Bourne and bandaging his hands in what appears to be a fight scene somewhere in Europe.
The new Bourne film, distributed by Universal Pictures, is scheduled to be released on July 29, 2016.
