After months of speculation, rumors, and even confirmation from Marvel Studios‘ lead Kevin Feige that characters from the Marvel Cinematic Universe would be popping into the newly included film world of a certain wallcrawler, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed that Robert Downey Jr., better known to the popculture world as the man who portrays Tony Stark/ Iron Man, will be appearing in next year’s “Spider-Man Homecoming” – which will be the full length solo film featuring Tom Holland’s Peter Parker/ Spider-Man that comes right after his debut in this year’s “Captain America: Civil War“!
According to THR’s report, Downey has closed a deal to join the cast of the new Spider-Man reboot flick, which will explain the relationship between Tony Stark and Peter Parker and probably show why “Team Iron Man” became Spidey’s group of choice. This Sony and Marvel deal is exclusive of the other films RDJ is also signed for – which are Avengers: Infinity War Part 1 and Part 2.
While we’ll still have to wait over a year for the new Spidey film to come out, the world will be seeing the new wallcrawler for the very first time fighting alongside the armored avenger’s side in “Captain America: Civil War” by the end of April internationally and early May in the states.
Spider-Man Homecoming hits theaters on July 7, 2017.
