After one teaser trailer, trickles of little information, and reports of reshoots being conducted for the movie, some BIG NEW news has been revealed by Entertainment Weekly for the first new Star Wars spin-off film by Walt Disney Pictures and Lucasfilm Ltd. called “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story” – which depicts the events that occur before the first Star Wars film (Episode IV: A New Hope) where a group of Rebel spies are out on a secret mission to steal the Galactic Empire’s plans for their new weapon – the Death Star. To help promote the release of the film later this year, EW has a new exclusive on the spin-off – showing off their upcoming July 2016 issue that has Rogue One spotlighted and Felicity Jones’ character Jyn Erso on the cover along with her allies, enemies, and the Empire’s forces and Death Star in the background.
Directed by Gareth Edwards of “Monsters” and “Godzilla” fame, Rogue One’s new details are both interesting and “most impressive”. The first big thing to report is that the Dark Lord of the Sith himself, Darth Vader, is officially going to be in this spin-off – further bridging things to just before the events of Episode IV happen and Luke Skywalker and his allies meet their destinies.
In addition to Vader’s (re)appearance, Diego Luna’s role has been named as Captain Cassian Andor, while Donnie Yen plays warrior monk Chirrut Imwe. Jiang Wen plays Chirrut’s ally Baze Malbus, and Riz Ahmed plays hothead pilot Bodhi Rook. The team’s droid, called K-2S0, is played by Alan Tudylk.
