New York Comic Con (NYCC for short) was recently concluded at the Javits Convention Center in Manhattan, and your friendly neighborhood cosplaying correspondent was lucky enough to get two-day badges to the largest fan convention in the East Coast. Read on for some of the highlights from the event.
The main show floor prominently displayed booths from every facet of the fanverse. From video games and manga to books and toys, major companies like Square Enix and Konami showcased their current bestsellers and upcoming products with impressive exhibits.
There was also a cool customized Chevrolet sedan with a My Little Pony Guardians of Harmony vinyl skin on display.
Toys are always one of the main highlights of NYCC, and this year didn’t disappoint. Well-known toy companies like Kotobukiya and Funko had impressive displays at the show, and toys from famous franchises like Macross and Nightmare on Elm Street can be seen all over the place.
Good Smile Company, the famous manufacturer of Figma and Nendoroid figures, was not to be outdone. Here are some of their display highlights, including the upcoming Naruto Nendoroid figure and the supersized Jumbo Hatsune Miku Nendoroid (four times the size of your ordinary Nendoroid!).
Of course, let’s not forget the cosplayers. There’s a cosplay for every era, and NYCC fans proved this as they came out wearing outfits from newer trends like Overwatch and Pokemon Go as well as from beloved comics and cartoon classics. Here are some of my personal favorites.
That’s it for my two-day NYCC coverage. NYCC has so much more to offer in Artists’ Alley, special guests, and panels that two days are not enough to cover it all! Hopefully next year I can score full-weekend tickets so I can take in everything!
