After 20 years, a new CG-animated sequel to the popular 1997 sci-fi movie Starship Troopers, titled Starship Troopers: traitor of Mars will hit cinemas come August 21. And it looks like it will have anime roots. Take a look at the trailer below:
Fathom Events mentions Sony’s Stage 6 Films to partner with Japanese production company Lucent Pictures Entertainment and Tokyo-based computer animation studio Sola Digital Arts.
For the old-school fans, it would delight you to know that Casper Van Dien and Dina Meyer will be back to reprise thier roles as Johnny Rico and Dizzy Flores. The original screenwriter, Ed Neumeier, will also return to write the screenplay.
From Fathom Events:
In “STARSHIP TROOPERS: TRAITOR OF MARS”, Johnny Rico has just been demoted and sent to a small satellite station on Mars whilst the Federation attacks the bugs’ home planet. While trying to train his new recruits on this remote quiet station, the bugs show up in a surprise attack but the Federation’s Fleet is too far away to help. It’s up to Rico and his Troopers to save the planet and uncover how the bugs made it so close to home.
Who’s excited? Though the movie will have a one-day only screentime this August, I personally hope this picks up that we get to see more SST on the horizon!
