Sometimes, it’s best that a trailer doesn’t tell you anything. Some films rely on trailers to build up the hype but then leave very little left to the imagination and then there’s Dunkirk. Going into the film, I wasn’t expecting too much since I’m not really a fan of movies that represent war but then again, this is Dunkirk. Check out our impressions below as we help you figure out if you have to watch this movie or watch this movie. 🙂
Dunkirk is a story about how hundreds of thousands of British and Allied troops are surrounded by enemy forces and as they are trapped on a beach with their backs to the sea, they face an impossible situation as the enemy inches closer and closer. While this is something that is based off of history books and you cannot get spoiled by the turn of events, the film perfectly portrays the struggle and hardships during this time of war.
The film is a gripping tale of how these soldiers survived amidst insurmountable odds: their thoughts during the ordeal, their emotions, and their will to live. It’s something that must be viewed and not just read about and as a person who does not fancy war movies too much, Dunkirk was a rollercoaster ride of emotions that I’m glad to have experienced. If you have the time to catch it in cinemas, I would highly recommend it as this is another masterpiece from none other than Christopher Nolan himself!
IMAX viewing is highly encouraged for maximum immersion, I’d go as far to say as it is required for the full experience.
I thoroughly enjoyed the 2 hours that I spent with this film and have a newfound appreciation for movies set upon the backdrop of war. Dunkirk is now showing in cinemas nationwide starting today, July 20, from Warner Bros. Pictures!
