Last July, Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn, was fired by Disney over some offensive tweets that Gunn made back in 2008. While Marvel Cinematic Universe fans clamored for Disney to re-hire James Gunn, it seems that won’t be happening anytime soon, if at all.
In a report by io9, Gunn is said to be in talks with Warner Bros. to write (and maybe even direct) the sequel to the DC film, Suicide Squad. Given the first film’s lukewarm critical response, DC hiring Gunn to write Suicide Squad 2 seems like a good idea. Gunn’s style might be a good fit to the franchise.
Regarding this news, Suicide Squad director David Ayer expressed his support for Gunn. GOTG star Dave Bautista also tweeted his thoughts on the matter:
Where do I sign up! James Gunn Boards ‘Suicide Squad 2’ To Write And Possibly Direct – Deadline https://t.co/OwdDbAm1Ks

If Gunn does go on to write Suicide Squad 2, this should bring a sigh of relief to DC film fans given all the news that’s been rocking the DCEU. The biggest of which is Henry Cavill’s reported exit from the Superman role, not to mention the Justice League movie which actually cost the studio around USD 60 million.
