In spite of the tragic loss of over 30 people in the Kyoto Animation arson attack, KyoAni recently announced that it is pushing through with the release of ‘Violet Evergarden Gaiden‘ (or Violet Evergarden Side-Story: Eternity and the Auto Memories Doll). in Japan this September. The announcement was made alongside the release of the first trailer for the new Violet Evergarden project.

In case you’re unfamiliar, Violet Evergarden Gaiden is a side-story that is one of the two planned film projects for the series. In Gaiden, Violet will meet new characters such as noblewoman Isabella York (Minako Kotobuki) and a young girl named Taylor Bartlett (Aoi Yuki). Violet will also be joined by returning cast from the original 13-episode anime series.
Violet Evergarden Gaiden will be released in Japanese theaters on September 6-26, 2019. Meanwhile, the Violet Evergarden feature-length film will be released in January 2020.
