Re:Zero Season 2 premiere has been delayed due to the coronavirus outbreak

The long-awaited season 2 of Re Zero will now premiere in July.

Announced last year, the long-awaited second season of Re:Zero (aka Re:Zero – Starting Life in Another World) was scheduled to premiere in April 2020. Due to the ongoing COVID-19 outbreak though, it was announced that season 2 premiere of Re:Zero will be delayed to July 2020. The announcement was made just recently via a blog post the official Re:Zero website.

In the announcement, the Re:Zero staff explained that “the global issues of the COVID-19 coronavirus illness have had a big effect on the production” (via J-List). While Re:Zero season 2’s new release month has been confirmed, the specific release date for the first episode is yet to be revealed.

Not familiar with the anime? Re:Zero is an “isekai” anime based on the light novel series of the same name. The series stars Subaru Natsuki, a hikikomori who finds himself transported in another world. Unlike other isekai series though, Subaru does not have any physical/magical powers to help him survive in this new world; instead, Subaru is able to go back in time upon death.

Given Subaru’s only power, the series often becomes quite dark, especially for isekai standards. If you have yet to watch the series, it’s definitely an entertaining anime to binge if you’re in the mood for a dark and exciting story.
