Mineski Global and Globe recently kicked off the first season of the Philippine Pro Gaming League (PPGL) 2020. Unlike previous PPGL seasons in 2018 and 2019, PPGLS 2020 introduces a revamped, mobile-focused games lineup. The new PPGL lineup includes fan favorites such as Mobile Legends: Bang Bang and Rules of Survival mobile, and it introduces two new titles — Marvel Super War and Call of Duty Mobile.
Because the country is still under varying degrees of quarantine and to comply with social distancing initiatives, all qualifiers for the four games in the PPGL lineup will be held online. PPGL 2020 also aims to promote esports as a platform for connection and professional competition, especially in our times today. PPGL 2020 will also focus on gathering aid for institutions that are at the frontline in combating the cornavirus pandemic.
PPGL 2020 will feature daily cups, as well as long-form tournament runs with at mutliple phases. PPGL 2020 will also hold Community Cups, these are events where fans will be able to play with various streamers and influencers. These Community Cups will run for six weeks, starting from the last of April to the first week of June. They’ll also feature a daily PHP 10,000 cash prize; plus, winning teams will play for the benefit of the Philippine Heart Center, for a total donation of PHP 680,000.
The first season of PPGL 2020 launches on April 28 with the ML:BB Community Cups, followed by group stage broadcasts for CoD Mobile and ROS on June 20, and 21, respectively. Finally, the ML:BB and Marvel Super War group stages will start on July 11.
Teams who survive the group stages will be facing off against each other from July 31 to August 2 to crown the season’s champions.
