With the likes of E3 and gamescom cancelled, another major video game event will no longer push through this year. The TGS 2020 organizers have just announced that Tokyo Game Show 2020 is cancelled due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
Here is the official statement from the TGS 2020 organizers:
“Due to the outbreak of novel coronavirus (COVID-19) on a global scale and the situation remains unpredictable in Japan as well, the organizer and the co-organizers have reached this decision after a long consideration to place the utmost priority on the health and safety of visitors, exhibitors and stakeholders. We ask for your kind understanding and cooperation.”
Tokyo Game Show 2020 was originally set to happen from September 24-27, 2020 at Makuhari Messe in Chiba. This year marks the first time ever that Tokyo Game Show has been cancelled since the event first started back in 1996.
While there will be no TGS 2020 physical event this year, the organizers have announced that an online Tokyo Game Show event is in the works. While there are still no details regarding the planned online event, this is at least some good news, especially as Tokyo Game Show is one of the biggest gaming events of the year and is a showcase of the latest games from Japan.
More info on the TGS online event will be announced soon.
