During Netflix’s Anime Festival 2020 livestream that was shown this morning exclusively for media, Netflix Japan showcased a whole slew of exciting lineup for 2021. While there are a lot that we’re excited for, we’re absolutely thrilled that they showed the first few images from Trese’s Animation production.
While it’s not a trailer, these two stills (shared to the public by Netflix Philippines) gives you an idea of the artstyle and the production quality that’s being employed in creating the Trese Animation for Netflix.
Aswangs of Manila, beware: Alexandra Trese is coming for you. Enjoy this very first look at TRESE, coming soon on Netflix. 🇵🇭🇵🇭🇵🇭

Attached to the project is renowned Filipino-American animation director and storyboard artist Jay Olivia (Dark Knight Returns part 1 and 2, Justice League: War, Justice League Dark) serving as Executive Producer with Shanty Harmayn and Tanya Yuson as Producers and animated by BASE Entertainment, an animation studio based in Jakarta and Singapore.
The official synopsis of Trese states:
“Set in Manila where mythical creatures of the Philippine folklore live in hiding amongst humans, Alexandra Trese finds herself going head to head with a criminal underworld composed of malevolent supernatural beings.”
Originally created by Budjette Tan and drawn by artist Kajo Baldisimo, the Filipino original comic series started its run from December 2005 and ended by October 2011, having generated 17 issues by then.
Here’s one more good thing to look forward to this coming 2021!
