Philippine video game retailer Datablitz has just announced that it will release the PS5 Digital Edition on December 11, 2020 for PHP 23,990. This version of the console will not have a Blu-Ray disc drive, meaning games can only be played digitally.
For comparison, the PS5 with the Blu-Ray disc drive will have a price tag of PHP 27,990–meaning the Digital Edition is PHP 4k more affordable. Though the downside is that gamers will not be able to play disc copies of their PS4 game collection.
The price of the PS5 Digital Edition in the US is USD 399 which is PHP 19,259 when converted; this means the PS5 Digital Edition’s Philippine price tag is over PHP 4,000 more expensive. Though this is pretty much as expected given that electronics in the Philippines are usually more expensive when compared to US prices. In fact, we actually predicted a few months ago that the PS5 Digital Edition will be priced at PHP 23,990.
Alongside the console, Sony will also release a range of PS5 accessories, including:
- DualSense™ Wireless Controller (standalone) – PHP 3,990
- PULSE 3D™ wireless headset – with 3D audio support and dual noise-cancelling
microphones – PHP 5,590 - HD Camera – with dual 1080p lenses for gamers to broadcast themselves along with
their epic gameplay moments – PHP 3,290 - DualSense™ Charging Station – to conveniently charge two DualSense Wireless
Controllers – PHP 1,690
In related news, pre-orders for the standard PS5 were opened today, but only for five minutes.
