In line with social distancing measures amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, Sony has announced that all launch day sales of the PS5 will be available only through the the online stores of our PlayStation partners.
“No units will be available in-store for purchase on launch day (November 12 or November 19, depending on your region) – please don’t plan on camping out or lining up at your local retailer on launch day in hopes of finding a PS5 console for purchase. Be safe, stay home, and place your order online.”
Given this announcement, retail stores will only give PS5 units to buyers who have pre-ordered the console ahead of launch. While this means gamers who haven’t been able to pre-order the console will likely not get a PS5 on launch day. It’s not ideal, but it’s definitely an understandable move given the pandemic. After all, new console launches often have long lines of eager gamers, something that must be avoided in light of COVID-19.
The PS5 will release in November 12 in select countries while the rest of the world will get the console on November 19. Even with the recent announcement from Sony though, there’s still no word yet on the PS5’s release date in the Philippines. In fact, the PS5 may not release in Holiday 2020 in the country.
