Huawei Philippines hosted the first summit of its official search engine, Petal Search, a Huawei Mobile Services (HMS) native search engine app last December 10, 2020. This is also the first time that Petal Search hosted the summit officially in another country outside China to introduce the product and get more partners join the ecosystem.
With support for more than 50 languages, Petal Search provides users with search capabilities to find apps, news, videos, images, shopping, flights, local businesses, and more. Users can find the information and services they need conveniently through the Petal Search app, the home-screen search widget, HUAWEI browser, HiBoard screen and more.
Leveraging on the AI capabilities of Huawei devices, Petal Search supports a visual search feature that enables users to search via photos they took or images in their gallery. This feature helps Petal Search cater to the needs of users who are accustomed to the highly efficient and a mobile-centric lifestyle of the digital era. Future updates will include plants identification capabilities for the visual search feature. Petal Search also supports voice search feature for English, Spanish, French, Arabic, and other languages.
Petal Search provides users in Philippines dedicated search channels for categories such as news, shopping, travel, sports, local businesses, videos, music and images. It also shares with users more than 300 types of information cards, aggregating and visualizing news and services according to the users’ needs.
As the search engine developed for the mobile era, Petal Search also provides localized search services for users in the Philippines, such as Shopee, GMA New, BeautyMNL, and Watsons, with a total of more than 20 partners.
The search engine also pulls up high-quality and relevant results when users look up localized queries. It also provides additional services, such as weather and translation to meet the day-to-day needs of its users.
Petal Search is compliant with security policies, laws, and regulations in every country it is available in. It is also certified with the ePrivacyseal data protection seal of approval and complies with GDPR requirements. The search engine also provides a variety of search modes, such as safe search and incognito mode, for users to choose from.
Freda Ng, Chief Digital Officer from Watsons International, said, “Petal Search is a brand new-search engine for mobile users. Through cooperation with Petal Search, we can provide our customers with an improved mobile shopping experience. Our customers will be able to easily and safely search products in many ways, either through simple keywords to image and visual search. We’re happy to partner with Huawei’s Petal Search as it helps us serve our customers better.”
At the same time, Petal Search focuses on the construction of ecological capabilities. Through the quick access and operation capabilities provided by Unibox, Shopping Center and Local Center, partners can share the growth dividend of Petal Search.
Currently, Petal Search has been launched in over 170 countries and regions. Huawei chose the Philippine market for the first oversea submit of Petal Search. The Philippines is an important country in the Asia-Pacific region, with a large population, a young structure, an active economy, and rapid Internet economy and ecological development. At the same time, as a participant in the Philippines market, Huawei mobile phones have always been loved by local users and have always been in the forefront of market share. Therefore, Petal Search chose the Philippines as the first stop of our Petal Search growth series.
