Revealed back in September 2020 at the PlayStation 5 showcase, Final Fantasy 16 is the long-awaited next major installment in the Final Fantasy series, and it is confirmed to release on the PS5 in the future. Currently, there’s no word yet on if the game will only release on the PS5, or if the game will also release on PC. Though a recent video upload from PlayStation may have revealed something interesting.
The PlayStation Brazil YouTube channel (as spotted by Gamesradar) recently released a new video that showcases some upcoming PS5 titles, including Final Fantasy 16. At the bottom part of the video, the words “not available on other platforms for a limited time after launching on PS5” can be seen (words translated by Google). This likely means that Final Fantasy 16 will be a PS5 timed exclusive, meaning it won’t release on PC at launch.
FF16 being a timed exclusive for PS5 isn’t exactly a surprise. After all, Square Enix and Sony has the same agreement for Final Fantasy 7 Remake–a game that’s exclusive to PlayStation for one year. If Square and Sony have the same deal for FF16, we expect the game to be exclusively available on PS5 for at least a year. This means Final Fantasy fans need a PS5 if they want to experience the next major Final Fantasy installment ASAP.
Aside from this new bit of info, Square Enix has yet to reveal much about FF16. The newest details we had about the game was back in October when Square gave us a closer look at Final Fantasy 16’s world and characters.
