Wizards of the Coast teased some upcoming details and previews from one of its most anticipated Magic: The Gathering sets that will come out this year, Commander Legends: Battle for Baldur’s Gate! Like the first Commander Legends, this set focuses again on arguably MTG’s most popular format but this time it is coming back to the Dungeons and Dragons universe, which they initially touched upon on a previous expansion last year.
You can check out all the juicy details and previews in the video below:
Here’s a look a t some of the cards previewed during the live stream:
Its nice to know that they are printing this cycle of Battlebond lands again as they are considered a staple in the EDH format.
Speaking of lands, Reflecting Pool a card which was originally printed back in the Tempest block makes a return! With this, hopefully the price for the card lowers as well.
Elder Brain is a new creature that was spoiled. It takes a good chunk of mana to put down but attack trigger on this Horror makes it all worth it. Take note that its an attack trigger and doesn’t need to deal damage… Making Satoru Umezawa really happy.
Another black creature – Ancient Brass Dragon is a 7/6 flyer that reanimates creatures from any player’s graveyards. Provided you deal damage first and get a good dice roll. Also, Rulebook style cards make a return!
A solid bundle promo card that they are including is Wand of Wonder. With dice-rolling making a return, maybe its time to revisit this mechanic and build that dice-centric deck!
Some classic spells from the early years of Magic: The Gathering make a return and, like Lego and Duplo, is a perfect fit that ties in thematically with the D&D fluff.
And since we are talking about Baldur’s Gate, of course we can expect some iconic characters like Minsc and Boo to return! This ranger is pretty decent for a 4-mana planeswalker. What’s great about this is that planeswalker commanders make a return to the set.
Commander Legends: Battle for Baldur’s Gate releases on June 10, 2022 with a range of products to choose from. Check back on UnGeek for more Magic: The Gathering news!
