After getting an exact date for Sonic Frontiers, SEGA is following up with some sweet information on what to expect from this brand new story involving Big Blue. There’s quite a bit to unpack, and as always, we gotta go fast.
The game’s story takes place in the Starfall Islands–a land forgotten by all. This new, unknown area is full of mysterious ruins and eerie, dangerous enemies–remnants and denizens of an ancient sleeping civilization that Sonic has yet to meet.
New to Frontiers is the next generation of stage-clearing mechanics that involve combining all of the levels into a seamless Open-Zone world. There are challenges all around involving battles, puzzles, and colorful Cyber Space levels that are sure to overwhelm and excite both new and veteran players.
The game features both familiar and new faces alike, bringing life to Sonic’s adventure. We have long-time Sonic-pursuer Amy Rose, who gets trapped in Cyber Space rendering her intangible in a strange digitized form.
We’re also introduced to the Koco, the mysterious, friendly residents of Starfall
Islands who’ll tag along on your journey. Of course, these Koco have their own Elders and more mysterious peers who’ll help Sonic out, and perhaps even guide him towards a clearer path.
Starfall Islands has its own brand of peril. Deserts and Rocky Mountains cover the terrain, with remnants of colossal cannons and defensive walls adorning the landscape–providing a bit of history to the ancient history you’ll set out to discover. While certain areas are unforgiving with their scorching heat and sandstorms, cacti and oases still thrive across the island, providing a bit of relief. Nonetheless, it’s a beautiful place that is ripe for exploration.
Sonic Frontiers is scheduled for release on November 8, 2022, for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC via Steam.
