After announcing its partnership back in 2021, Discord voice chat is finally coming to the PS5 in the console’s latest beta update.
Specifically, PlayStation beta participants from select countries can get the latest PS5 update which adds a lot of new features. While the highlight of the update is no doubt the Discord integration, it will also include the long-awaited variable refresh rate support for 1440p displays.
Discord has long been the go-to platform for gamers on PC and mobile to chat with friends both in-game and outside of it.
For the longest time, PlayStation players had to use another device if they wanted to communicate through Discord. Finally, the new beta update will let players use Discord voice chat to communicate with players on PC, mobile, or other PS5 consoles.
To connect the PS5 to a Discord account, go to Settings > Users and Accounts > Linked Services. There, you simply need to follow the instructions to link your account, and that should be it.
Along with Discord PS5 integration, the beta update also adds VRR support for 1440p resolution. Previously, variable refresh rate is only available on either 1080p or 4K, so with this, players on 1440p displays will get a tear-free experience.
These aren’t the only additions though as the beta update will also add new social features, accessibility, and more.
