OPPO Reno8 T 5G Impressions | Beefier and Fortified with 5G

There's more to this phone than just having 5G.

Just a few weeks after the launch of the OPPO Reno8 T, the mid-ranger from OPPO with “a lot of firsts”, a new Reno8 T comes into the fray. Introducing the OPPO Reno8 T 5G – the slightly beefier brother of its predecessor.

So…what’s the difference (aside from the name)? Is it significant enough to be sub-categorized under a different product variant? In a way, it somehow is.

Beefed-up Screen

One of the key differences of the OPPO Reno8 T 5G versus the non-5G variant is the screen. From a flat 6.4” AMOLED Screen the 5G variant gets a bump to 6.7” Curved AMOLED Screen with a higher refresh rate support of up to 120Hz.  The front-facing camera position has been adjusted as well from being flushed to the side now right smack at the center.

As curved displays tend to be a bit more delicate, added protection has to be placed to ensure that the material doesn’t shatter quickly. Fortunately, for the OPPO Reno8 T 5G, it’s using DT (Dragontail) Star Protective Glass, a tempered glass developed in Japan.

Beefier Camera

Aside from the display, the main camera of the OPPO Reno8 T 5G also got a slight upgrade. Instead of having just 100MP main shooter, the Reno8 T 5G comes with 108MP portrait cam along with the usual 2MP Depth Sensor and a category-first 2MP Micro camera similar to the non 5G variant.

And for those asking, yes, the Micro cam does exactly that – take photos to almost-microscopic depths. Something like this:

5G Capabilities and Power Management

Powering all of this is the very reliable Qualcomm Snapdragon 695 5G Processor. While it’s not the latest chipset in the market, the 695 is a staple choice for a lot of mid-range offerings in the past 2 years. It can most apps in the market, including today’s popular mobile games. 5G also means you’re able to download and upload faster, and enjoy your favorite shows to stream.

The smartphone also has a large 4800mAh battery, sure 200mAh shy of the non-5G variant’s 5000mAh, but it does come with a fast 67W SuperVOOC Flash charging and Battery Health Engine ensuring that the phone’s battery doesn’t dwindle for the next 4 years (48-month fluency promise by the brand) – a very bold move from the brand.  And lastly, just like the non-5G version, the OPPO Reno8 T 5G comes with 8GB of RAM +8GB Extended, and 256GB of internal memory.

The OPPO Reno8 T 5G comes in soft-matte OPPO Glow finish with Sunrise Gold (the unit that we have), and Midnight Black colorways. The OPPO Glow gives a luxurious sheen to its Polymer-based wear-resistant casing.

As for the release date, while we have no specific date yet, we’re fairly sure it will arrive in the country within the immediate months.
