After confirming its PH release earlier this month, Makoto Shinkai’s Suzume finally has an official release date in the Philippines!
Specifically, the next movie by the acclaimed Your Name and Weathering With You director will be released in Philippine cinemas on March 8, 2023. The film’s PH release was officially revealed by Encore Film Philippines (who will distribute the film in the Philippines alongside Warner Bros. Pictures).
Suzume was initially released in Japan back in November, and it became a huge hit in the Japanese box office. It also got great reviews, with considerable praise directed at its impressive visuals.
The film also made history for being selected as part of the prestigious Berlin International Film Festival’s main competitions. Suzume is the first film to be selected for the film festival in over 20 years, with the last one being Spirited Away by Hayao Miyazaki.
For its story, the film follows Suzume, a seventeen-year-old girl who discovers a mysterious door in the mountains. Soon, other doors appear all over Japan, bringing disasters all over the country. Suzume must trek through Japan to close the doors before more destruction is unleashed.
Right now though, there’s no word yet on which cinemas the movie will be screened in. Though given how Your Name and Weathering With You got wide releases, it’s likely that Suzume will get a wide release in the Philippines on its March 8 release date.
