To celebrate the recent launch of Season 4: Eleventh Hour, EA announced that Battlefield 2042 is currently free-to-play on PC via Steam. Of course, the game’s free to play status is only available for a couple of days.
During the free play period, players can access the fourth season’s new maps, Specialists, weapons, and more. This free play promo comes just after the launch of the Return to the Class System which aims to create a more structured and understandable role that players are used to on the Battlefield.
Specifically, four classic classes – Assault, Recon, Support, and Engineer – have returned with season 4. Alongside these classes are weapon improvements, balancing, audio/visual enhancements, as well as a rework of the Breakaway map.
In case you missed its launch, Battlefield 2042 is the latest game in DICE’s long-running Battlefield franchise. As its title implies, 2042 is set in the near future, and it features futuristic weapons and other items. It is also unique among games in the series for being solely a multiplayer game as it lacks a single player campaign mode. Though its story is told through multiplayer matches.
Back when it was released in October 2021, the game got mixed reviews, while players were disappointed with its state at launch. Though since then, EA and DICE have released several updates that aimed to enhance the overall gameplay and added content.
Battlefield 2042 is free on Steam now until March 17, 2023. For more info, visit the official website.
