As fans still eagerly await a proper new Persona game, a new mobile game spinoff titled Persona 5: The Phantom X was announced recently on Weibo.
While mobile game spinoffs of popular franchises are nothing new, The Phantom X is interesting as it seems to promise a full Persona experience on mobile, complete with a new cast and story.

While this game is made in partnership with SEGA and Atlus, it is being developed by China-based Black Wings Game Studio which is owned by Chinese gaming giant, Perfect World.
For now, the game has only been confirmed for a release in China. Though before you think this is going to be a simple cash-grab, a gameplay trailer was released which showed off in-game footage that looked very much like something out of Persona 5.

Based on what was revealed recently, the game seems to feature the same core gameplay loop as the mainline Persona games. It will also feature characters designed by Shigenori Soejima.
Right now, there’s no word yet on when Persona 5: The Phantom X will be released. There’s also no info yet on if this will get a global release as it was only officially revealed for the Chinese market. Though what’s confirmed is that the game will be available for lucky players in China in an early test on March 29, 2023.
More info can be found on the game’s official website. Though you’ll need to rely on machine translation as it’s only available in Chinese.
