Thanks to the success of The Super Mario Bros Movie, Shigeru Miyamoto teased that more Nintendo movies may be coming soon.
Recently, the new Mario movie has become a huge hit as it has earned over USD 800 million at the global box office, making it the highest-grossing film based on the video game of all time. For reference, the previous record holder was the Warcraft movie which earned USD 439 million.
Because of its success, it won’t be a surprise if we see more movies from Nintendo. In fact, the father of Mario himself, Shigeru Miyamoto, shared in a recent interview that because of the Mario film’s success, “there are many possible ways [they] could go, such as using characters that would be fit for movies, or very well-known characters.”
“Nintendo is like a talent agency. We have plenty of other entertainers,” added Miyamoto. This might just mean more Nintendo films are in the pipeline.
For now though, there’s no official word yet on if more Nintendo movies are coming soon. Though we imagine that it will be the case as Nintendo has lots of franchises that will definitely be worthy of the big screen.
In case you haven’t seen it yet, The Super Mario Bros. Movie is screening now in PH cinemas. Though if you need more convincing, you can check out our review here:
