The Super Mario Bros. Movie is now a smash hit as it breaks records on its opening weekend, making it one of the biggest videogame to film adaptations of all time.
Earning a total of USD 377 million worldwide, The Super Mario Bros. Movie is already a blockbuster within just a short time, outrunning Sonic the Hedgehog 2’s opening weekend of USD 72.1 million.

The videogame animated film project by Illumination and Nintendo is now among the highest-grossing animated movie like Frozen II and The Lion King, surpassing both films with its worldwide debut. It also blitzes its way to the top as the biggest videogame movie adaptation for its international opening weekend, surpassing Pokemon Detective Pikachu and both of the aforementioned Sonic the Hedgehog films.
The film stars Chris Pratt as Mario who started his new plumbing business with his brother Luigi who is voiced by Charlie Day. But their lives make a sudden turn as they get separated and unwillingly transported to the Mushroom Kingdom. There Mario meets the kingdom’s leader Princess Peach voiced by Anya Taylor-Joy who asks Mario’s assistance to stop Bowser (Jack Black) from taking over the Mushroom Kingdom and at the same time save his little brother Luigi.
The Super Mario Bros. Movie opens in the Philippines cinemas on April 19, 2023.
