Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 finally got its gameplay debut at the 2023 PlayStation Showcase, and it showed off lots of impressive moments.
While there were many reveals at the showcase, its fair to say that Spider-Man 2 was the biggest one of all, and it makes sense that it was reserved until the very end.
In case you haven’t seen it yet, you can watch the full gameplay showcase here:
The video starts off in a very un-Spider-Man-like way as it features a jungle setting. Though the video is soon revealed to be a Spider-Man showcase as it showed off Kraven the Hunter, one of Spideys most well-known adversaries.
We soon get a flash forward six months later, and it seems that Kraven the Hunter has set his sights on New York City as his next hunting ground.
The video then properly shifts to gameplay, with the player in control of Peter Parker. Though he is now wearing the Venom Suit, and his impressive range of Venom abilities were shown. From the looks of it, Queens will also be part of the game’s map.
From Peter, the gameplay then shifts to Miles, indicating that the game will shift the control between Peter and Miles. While Miles may not have Venom abilities, he does feature enhanced electric moves.
We are then treated to an incredible chase sequence, complete with the two Spideys against Kraven’s forces and even Lizard.
It’s not clear how Peter gets a hold of Venom, though the showcase hints that this will be a major plot point, as Miles says that Peter is not usually like this.
Aside from the interesting new moves, Spider-Man 2 seems to be mostly similar to the first Marvel’s Spider-Man gameplay-wise, though it remains to be seen what else is new that will be added. What’s certain is that the game looks excellent visually, owing to the fact that it’s a true PS5 exclusive.
Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 will be released on the PS5 sometime in Fall 2023. For now though, there’s no word yet on a specific release date.
