At the 2023 PlayStation Showcase, Bungie’s Marathon was revealed.
A CG trailer was shown featuring striking visuals of a dystopian sci-fi world in conflict. This will be the first time Bungie is working on a new project in more than a decade.

For those who don’t know, Marathon was actually an older Bungie game from 1994. It was an FPS trilogy that was primarily released on Mac OS systems. Game Director Christopher Barrett talks more about it in an interview with PlayStation over at the PS Blog.
“It’s not a direct sequel to the originals, but something that certainly belongs in the same universe and that feels like a Bungie game. It’s our aim to create something incredible both for players who are completely new to the Marathon world and for those that have been waiting years for more stories in the Marathon universe.” Barrett said.
Marathon is a sci-fi PvP extraction shooter from the creators of both the Halo and Destiny franchises. Marathon will have players engaging one another as cybernetic mercenaries known as Runners, exploring a lost colony on the planet of Tau Ceti IV in search of riches, fame, and infamy.
Even though PlayStation has already acquired Bungie Studios, Marathon is currently in development for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC with full cross-play and cross-save.
While there was no announcement of a release date, Barrett did promise that the next time they would talk about the game, they’ll be able to showcase gameplay already and that it’ll be much closer to the launch window.
