As the PlayStation 5 supply constraints have finally eased up, the PS5 console has outsold the Xbox Series X|S quite heavily in March 2023.
Specifically, VGChartz recently released its March 2023 console sales report. According to their data, the PS5 sold an estimated four times as many units as the Xbox Series X|S. The data also shows that the PS5 has outsold the Nintendo Switch by two units to one.
Based on the site’s reported numbers, the PS5 has sold over 35 million units as of March 2023. In the same time period, the Xbox Series consoles have sold over 21 million units.
Take note though, VGChartz’s data is based on its own data-collection methodology and is not the official sales numbers from the console manufacturers. Still, this is still a good indication of how the PS5 is pulling away from the Xbox as the console of choice in this console generation.

In the previous console generation, the PS4 was the clear winner as it has sold over 100 million units in its lifetime. For comparison, the Xbox One has no official recent sales figures, though the console is estimated to have sold around 50 million units.
Given the PS5’s trajectory, it won’t be a surprise to see the same thing happen this generation if sales continue at this rate. Not to mention that there has been a lot of talk about the Xbox Series X|S and its lack of exclusives following the disastrous launch of Redfall. For comparison, the PS5 got two critically-acclaimed triple-A exclusives last year — Horizon Forbidden West and God of War Ragnarok.
