Here’s everything you need to know about the launch of the Philippine Collegiate Championship.
The Collegiate Center for Esports (CCE) held a press conference on May 15 to officially announce the Philippine Collegiate Championship (PCC), a league that aims to develop and support the competitive gaming scene for college students in the country.
The PCC will be divided into four stages:
- An open qualifier tournament will be held. Teams from four divisions (Luzon, Visayas, Mindanao, and NCR) will compete among themselves in single-elimination matches. Any university is welcome to participate.
- The top four teams in each region will proceed to the Group Stage wherein they will face each other once in a round-robin setup.
- The top two teams from each group will proceed to the playoffs. The quarterfinals to the semifinals will have a best-of-five setup. The whole PLayoffs will be n a Single Elimination System.
- The final championship match will be held with a best-of-five series.
In collaboration with local officials and the Commission of Higher Education, the championship tournament will be held in Quezon City.
The CCE is planning to develop a masterclass program on esports. This will touch on not just the games themselves, but also the business side of things when it comes to competitive gaming.
“We are doing all of this because we believe that esports has a place in the Philippines. We want to remove the stigma that gaming is just a mindless hobby that will get you nowhere. Just look at the competitive gaming scene in other countries. The Philippines is possibly 5-10 years behind already. We’re creating a roadmap for the future so that brands, companies, investors, etc. will see that esports is not only a place for gamers, but for business as well,” CCE President Stanley Lao said.
Playdex will act as the main social hub for PCC.
The PCC is set to launch later this year with Mobile Legends: Bang Bang. The CCE is hoping to expand with other esports titles in the coming years.
