Along with two new Persona games, ATLUS also revealed Metaphor Re:Fantazio at the Xbox Games Showcase 2023 livestream.
This upcoming game is being made by ATLUS’ Studio Zero, the division behind the Catherine games. It is also directed by Katsura Hashino, the director of Persona 3, 4, and 5. And if that’s not enough to excite ATLUS fans, Metaphor also features character designs by Shigenori Soejima, the famed character designer of the Persona games.
You can check out the game’s announcement trailer here:
It’s tough not to talk about Persona when this game is brought up, especially as its staff features veterans of the series, not to mention that the gameplay shown in the trailer looks quite familiar for fans of Persona.
Though Metaphor is still its own game, and it seems that development is quite far along now given that there are some snippets of gameplay shown. Of course, we still have no idea how the game will actually play, though it’s a safe bet that it’s combat will feel familiar to Shin Megami Tensei and Persona fans.
Metaphor Re:Fantazio will be released on Xbox Series X|S and Windows PC sometime in 2024. Along with Persona 3 Reload and Persona 5 Tactica, there’s no official word yet on if this game will be released on PlayStation. But given that ATLUS hasn’t released a true Xbox exclusive yet, it’s likely that this game will also come to PS5.
