Blizzard announced that Overwatch 2 is celebrating Pride with a range of LGBTQ+-inspired in-game cosmetics, map theme, and more.
For starters, every player that logs into the game beginning today, June 1, will receive a wide range of Player Icons and Name Cards that celebrate diversity. These include Player Icons with different flags (such as the asexual flag and the trans flag), as well as Name Cards featuring different colors, with some even featuring one of the five LGBTQ+ characters in the game (namely Tracer, Soldier: 76, Pharah, Lifeweaver, and Baptiste).
Along with these in-game cosmetics, Blizzard also published a short story about these characters that celebrate their identities. You can read the short story now on the game’s official website.
And since it’s Pride Month, two Overwatch 2 maps will feature some changes. First up is Midtown which is updated to show various rainbow and Pride-themed design elements. Essentially, the map is styled so that it takes place after a Pride parade.
Then there’s Watchpoint: Gibraltar which features a new photo in the barracks featuring Tracer and her partner Emily. This photo is also included as a new spray that’s available for Tracer.
This is the first Pride event for Overwatch 2, and it continues the game’s celebration of diversity as this is something that the series has been consistent with since its launch.
In related news, it was confirmed recently that Overwatch 2’s PvE mode has been canceled.
