Insomniac’s Spider-Man 2 launches on October 20, 2023 — confirms the game’s Creative Director Bryan Intihar during Summer Game Fest.
Our favorite web-slingers are swinging back for the much-anticipated sequel. We got a pretty substantial extended gameplay look at the recently concluded PlayStation Showcase where we saw the black venom suit in action. We also know that switching between Miles Morales and Peter Parker is a featured gameplay mechanic that players can do at any time except for specific missions.
While we didn’t get to see more of Spider-Man 2 in Summer Game Fest, Intihar did confirm that Venom in the game won’t be Eddie Brock. If you’ve played Spider-Man PS4, you probably saw its post-credits scene where we got our first tease that Venom is coming and who it might be.
Intihar also confirmed that “there’s going to be more villains coming” other than the confirmed Venom, Lizard, and Kraven the Hunter.
During the showcase, Intihar looked very confident about the October 20 release date for Spider-Man 2. Insomniac has always been vocal that the game was going to be released sometime in 2023. They’re a studio that has a good track record in terms of releasing polished games so all signs point to a positive outcome. Fingers crossed that Spider-Man 2 won’t be joining the recent AAA games trend where an apology post comes shortly after release.
Spider-Man 2 releases exclusively on PS5 on October 20, 2023.
