After opening in cinemas last week, Spider-Man Across the Spider-Verse topped box office charts with a haul of USD 208.6 million on its opening weekend.
Specifically, this USD 208.6 million haul is the global box office figure of the film. In the US, the movie grossed USD 120.5 million, making it the top film of the weekend in the country.
The box office success of Across the Spider-Verse is driven in part by the glowing reviews that the film has received. For reference, the film currently sits at a 95% Certified Fresh rating and 96% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes.
What’s more is that on Rotten Tomatoes and Metacritic, the film has an average rating of 8.7/10 and 87/100, respectively. This is an excellent average rating, and in fact, this makes Across the Spider-Verse one of the highest-rated films of 2023 on Metacritic — an impressive feat for a superhero movie.
The film’s rating is no surprise if you’ve seen the film already. After all, Across the Spider-Verse manages to outdo its predecessor in terms of scale and animation, all while still having a compelling story and characters.
The only thing you need to remember is that this is just the first part as Beyond the Spider-Verse will serve as “Part 2” of this film.
Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse is out now in cinemas in the Philippines and other selected countries around the world.
