After sharing new story details recently, ATLUS now revealed more new info about Persona 5 Tactica such as interesting tidbits about what to expect regarding gameplay.
As shown during the game’s reveal, this upcoming Persona 5 spinoff will feature tactical RPG gameplay that’s quite different from the original game. It’s also the second Persona 5 spin-off that totally transforms the gameplay, with the first being Persona 5 Strikers.
Now, ATLUS shared new details about the gameplay in Persona 5 Tactica. For starters, taking cover is a big part of the tactical gameplay. When you end your turn by taking cover, enemy attacks will either be reduced in damage or blocked completely. Plus, it’s important to keep this in mind as getting attacked while not in cover will give the enemy a One More, meaning they’ll be able to attack again.
Of course, enemies can hide too, though players can coordinate their team to sneak up on them and use a melee attack to break their cover. This will also result in a One More for the player so another team member can attack.
Another way to take advantage over enemies is through elemental skills that inflict ailments — this should be a familiar mechanic for players of the original Persona 5. Aside from potentially having an enemy skip a turn, using skills can also break enemy cover. Aside from elemental skills, each party member has unique skills as well, complete with different effects.
To get skills, players must use the Skill Tree by using Growth Points (GP) which can be gained when leveling or when talking to party members. What’s great about this is that skills can be reset at any time so players can experiment.
Speaking of talking, players can view conversations between party members through the Talk menu while in the hideout. Aside from potentially giving GP, these conversations will also let players dive deeper into the story and discover some unusual character pairings.
Persona 5 Tactica comes out on November 17, 2023, for the PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Xbox Game Pass, and PC. Plus, the game is also available for pre-order now.
