SM Cinema just announced that Psycho-Pass Providence is coming to cinemas in the Philippines later this month.
Specifically, the news of the film’s PH release was announced via the SM Cinema Facebook page. There, it was revealed that the film will be released in select SM Cinema theaters on July 26, 2023. This is definitely great news for Psycho-Pass fans as they won’t have to wait until the film gets released on streaming platforms.
Providence is the latest film in the Psycho-Pass cyberpunk anime franchise. This film is set between the Psycho-Pass: Sinners of the System movie trilogy and Psycho-Pass Season 3. While it still promises a lot of cyberpunk action even for those unfamiliar with the series, to get the best experience, you’ll need to have seen the first two seasons of the anime, as well as the the other films in the series.
The film’s premise is described as:
January 2118. Chief Inspector of the Criminal Investigation Department, Akane Tsunemori, receives a report of an incident on a foreign vessel – the body of Professor Milicia Stronskaya has been discovered. Behind the incident is a group known as the Peacebreakers, a foreign paramilitary organization and a new outside threat who are targeting the professor’s research papers known as the “Stronskaya Document”.
Reunited with Shinya Kogami, a former fugitive from the Criminal Investigation Department, Akane grapples with a case that quickly escalates beyond their expectations. The Stronskaya Papers could reveal a truth that would shake Japan’s government, and even the Sibyl System, to the core.
It is in this untold story that the missing link is revealed.
In the US, the movie will be released with English sub and dub options. Though in the Philippines, we expect the film to release with English subtitles and Japanese audio (as with most anime movie releases).
Psycho-Pass: Providence will be released in the Philippines on July 26, 2023.
