Ahead of the film’s wide release, Columbia Pictures announced that Gran Turismo: Based on a True Story will have sneak preview screenings in the Philippines.
Specifically, the previews will feature regular run admission prices in cinemas nationwide, and they’ll take place on August 21 and 22. With this, fans of the game (and of motorsports in general) can get to watch it early, ahead of its wide release the week after.

In case you missed its reveal, this movie is based on PlayStation’s ever-popular racing simulator series, Gran Turismo. It is also the latest live-action project under PlayStation Productions, alongside the likes of the Uncharted movie and HBO’s The Last of Us.
Of course, the Gran Turismo games don’t really have much of a story. So, this film instead follows the real-life story of Jann Mardenborough, a Gran Turismo player who makes the jump into professional racing.
The film’s premise is described as:
“Based on the true story of Jann Mardenborough, the film is the ultimate wish fulfillment tale of a teenage Gran Turismo player whose gaming skills won a series of Nissan competitions to become an actual professional racecar driver.
Directed by Neill Blomkamp, screenplay by Jason Hall and Zach Baylin, based on the PLAYSTATION STUDIOS video game.
Produced by Doug Belgrad, Asad Qizilbash, Carter Swan, Dana Brunetti. The executive producers are Kazunori Yamauchi, Herman Hulst, Jason Hall, Matthew Hirsch.
The cast is led by David Harbour, Orlando Bloom, Archie Madekwe, Darren Barnet, Geri Halliwell Horner and Djimon Hounsou.”
Gran Turismo: Based on a True Story will release in cinemas in the Philippines on August 30, 2023.
