Ahead of the game’s release this October, SEGA shared a new animated short for Sonic Superstars featuring the game’s three villains.
This new animated short is titled “Trio of Trouble.” As its title implies, the short follows trouble-filled misadventures of the game’s villains—Dr. Eggman, Fang, and Trip.

Along with the new Sonic Superstars animated short, SEGA also revealed two details about the game, including a new mode and a bous DLC.
Sonic Superstars to feature new Battle Mode
This new mode lets players control their own Metal Fighter with up to four players locally or up to eight online. Players compete in three rounds with randomly chosen events.
These events include:
- Star Snatcher: Collect the stars that appear at random across the stage. The player who gathers the most stars win!
- Survival: Deftly dodge oncoming missiles to be the last one standing. The ground will start to collapse as time passes.
- Zap Scrap: Use electric attacks to deal damage to as many enemies as you can. Picking up items will power up your attacks.
- Race: Race across a variety of stages. The first player to reach the finish line wins!
Newsletter Registration now open: Subscribers will receive bonus DLC
Finally, SEGA announced that registration is now open for the Sonic Superstars newsletter. By registering, players can receive new info about the game as they’re released. As a bonus, subscribing by March 31, 2024, will reward players with the Amy Costume Skin in Superstars.
Sonic Superstars will be released on PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Switch, and PC on October 17, 2023.
