Ahead of Tokyo Game Show 2023, Square Enix shared the anime opening movie for Star Ocean: The Second Story R, an upcomign RPG that will be released this November. Along with the anime opening, Square Enix also confirmed that a hands-on demo of the game will be exhibited at TGS 2023 later this month.
For the anime opening, Square Enix tapped Yostar Pictures (of Azur Lane and Blue Archive fame) to animate the short movie. The opening also features the song “stella” by Japanese music duo SUIREN.
This anime opening was revealed at the recent “Anime Impulse” event in LA, and you can watch it here:
Opening movies like these are nothing new for JRPGs as many titles have also gotten short opening animations like these from other notable studios. For instance, Demon Slayer studio ufotable was tapped to create the opening Tales of Arise.
Aside from this anime opening, Star Ocean fans will also be in for a treat soon as the game will be exhibited at the Square Enix TGS 2023 booth starting September 21. There, fans in attendance can try the game out ahead of its release.
In case you missed its reveal, The Second Story R is a remake of the iconic JRPG Star Ocean: The Second Story which was originally released on the PlayStation back in the late 90s.

Star Ocean: The Second Story R will be released on PS5, PS4 and Nintendo Switch November 2, 2023. Meanwhile, the Steam version will be released on November 3, 2023.
