According to a recent Counterpoint study, global foldable smartphone shipments will get to 55 million units by 2025.
Foldable smartphones are not exactly new as they’ve been around for a couple of years now, but every year, more and more brands are releasing their own foldable devices. Thanks to this, the foldable smartphone market is forecasted to grow even more in the coming years.
Specifically, according to Counterpoint, global foldable smartphone shipments have projected Compound Annual Growth Rate (CAGR) of 114% from 2019 to 2025. This means that shipments of foldables are expected to reach 55 million units in 2025 — that’s quadruple the number of shipments from 2022.
A lot of foldable adoption growth right now is in China as the country holds a 26% share of the global foldable market in 2022. In the coming years, it’s likely that the segment’s growth in the country will continue.
The growth of foldables can also be seen in the ultra-premium segment. There, foldables are expected to more than double its sales share globally by 2025. This means more and more premium smartphone buyers will go with foldables for their next smartphone of choice in the coming years.
Driving a lot of this growth are brand like OPPO. For instance, OPPO launched its first Find N in 2021 and has since continued releasing new entries in the segment. There’s last year’s Find N2 Flip which is OPPO’s first flip foldable that features the Flexion Hinge which has a more subtle crease, all while having the ability to withstand over 400,000 folds.
This week, OPPO will launch the Find N3 Flip globally following its launch on August 29, 2023, in the Chinese market. With this new foldable, OPPO promises to elevate foldable phones to new heights with a bunch of new features and improvements.
