Shigure Ui’s music video for her original song Shukusei!! Loli Kami Requiem (Purge!! Loli God Requiem), or Loli God Requiem, has now reached over 30 million views on YouTube and is currently ranked 22 on the platform’s Top 100 Music Videos Global chart (at the time of this article’s writing).
Loli God Requiem’s music video was released last month, and it already garnered over 10 million views and has now become one of the fastest-growing VTuber original songs on YouTube, beating Hololive’s Hoshimachi Suisei Stellar Stellar which currently has 30 million views on her official YouTube channel.
During its peak, Shigure Ui’s song also hit high ranks on domestic charts, staying at number 1 on Spotify (Japan) from September 18 to October 8.
For those who are not familiar with Shigure Ui, she’s a Japanese illustrator who worked on various anime, manga, light novels, and video games as a character designer. One of those works is Osananajimi ga Zettai ni Makenai Love Comedy or OsaMake for short and WIXOSS Diva(A)Live. But perhaps she’s best known for her work as the original character designer for Hololive 2nd gen Oozura Subaru who refers to her as Ui-mama.
Interestingly, Shigure Ui never intended for the song to become a viral hit, noting that even the songwriter IOSYS was surprised by Loli God Requiem’s sudden popularity. Initially, the song itself was just included as part of Ui’s first album titled The Rain Doesn’t Stop Yet which was released in May last year. The viral video is just intended as a joke since it was a running gag within her community of viewers.
Instead, it ended up giving her more viewers and jumprocketed her subscribers, as it has now reached the 1 million subscribers milestone.
