UPDATE (12/01/2024): The Boy and the Heron was originally set to be released in cinemas in the Philippines on November 29, though its release date has now been postponed to January 2024.
There’s no word yet on a new release date for the film.
The original article reads:
The Boy and the Heron is coming to the Philippines this November, at least that’s based on a recent listing on Ayala Malls Cinemas’ official website.
Specifically, the long-awaited movie from the legendary anime director now has an official page on Sureseats.com (on the Coming Soon tab), the official ticketing website of Ayala Malls Cinemas.
Based on the listing, The Boy and the Heron has a tentative Philippines release date of November 29, 2023. Though there are no schedules yet given that it’s still a bit over a month since this listed release date.
Miyazaki’s new movie being listed on Sureseats is an interesting development. After all, there have been no announcements yet from any Philippine movie distributor about the film’s release.
For now, we can’t say yet which distributor will handle the film’s PH release. Given that the film is only listed on Sureseats and not on other major Philippine cinema chain websites, there’s a chance that this will be an Ayala Malls Cinemas exclusive. Though we’ll have to wait for more information about the film’s release.
Still, it’s highly likely that the November release of the movie is accurate. After all, the film is set to release in the US this December, and anime films like these are typically released a bit earlier in the Philippines, as is the case with Makoto Shinkai’s Suzume.
Though take note that it’s release date is still tentative, so there may still be changes to its release schedule.
In case you’re unfamiliar, The Boy and the Heron (or How Do You Live? in Japan) is the latest film by Hayao Miyazaki, the legendary director of films such as Spirited Away and My Neighbor Totoro.
This movie is based on the 1937 novel of the same name, and it was first released in Japanese cinemas on July 14, 2023. Since then, the movie has been confirmed to get cinema releases in many countries around the world.
The film’s PH release is an exciting one for Pinoy anime fans and movie buffs. That’s because Miyazaki’s previous films did not get cinema released in the country.
Here’s hoping that more info gets released soon!
