October 15, 2023 marks the official end of the regular season for Mobile Legends: Bang Bang Professional League Philippines Season 12 (MPL-PH Season 12). After 6 weeks of intense battle for complete domination, only six teams will proceed to this season’s playoffs.
This season marked significant changes in the MLBB scene, one of the most notable changes is the absence of Blacklist’s key players Johnmar “OhMyV33nus” Villaluna and Danerie James “Wise” Del Rosario. World Champions ECHO, also is missing their roamer Tristan “Yawi” Cabrera as he remained benched throughout the season, filling in his spot is veteran player Jaypee Gonzales Dela Cruz. Also, BREN ESports debuted as the brand new AP. Bren as they joined forces with the up and coming amateur team AP ESports.
Adapting the point system where the season is played in a double round robin format with each team besting each other out of 3 games where a sweep (2-0) earns the winning team a 3 point score.
Though eliminated from the playoffs early, TNC Pro Team proved that they are still a force to be reckoned with. In the 6th and final week of the regular season, though people are saying that their remaining games no longer have bearing, the team still managed to be a thorn to Blacklist International and RSG Philippines denying them an easy 2nd place in both 2-0 and 2-1 matches respectively. TNC pro team valiantly fought to the bitter end, they may not be joining the playoffs, but their heads are still high knowing that they made this season 12 worth the fight for their opponents. The audience sends off TNC with a warm applause as they walk off stage in their final game in the MPL -PH S12.
In RSG Philippines’s match with TNC Pro Team where they lost in a 2-1 final score, Coach Panda reflected on what could be improved with the team’s consistency when facing high ranking and lower ranking teams during the season. Coach Panda muses that their loss may be due to some of the players becoming more complacent when facing teams who have lower points than them, but he assures that he will find a solution to where they are lacking and that the team will face each opponent in the playoffs equally. RSG Philippines will move onto the playoffs.
Probably the most anticipated match of week 6 Day 3 is the ONIC Philippines vs. Omega Esports face-off, as this is the deciding match whether or not Minana EVOS goes to the playoffs. The stakes are high as all Minana EVOS need is for Omega Esports to win the match against ONIC Philippines to be able to qualify for the playoffs. And ONIC Philippines on the other hand cannot make any mistakes either if they want a shot at the MPL-S12 trophy. But ONIC Philippines proves that they deserve the playoffs spot as they scored a 2-0 over Omega Philippines in a heated battle that resulted in a scathing 13-6 kill count in just under 20 mins. This dominating win officially ended Minana EVOS’ season. ONIC PH and OMG move onto the playoffs.
Moving onto the final game of the regular season, Blacklist International vs. AP Bren. Because of TNC’s tenacious win against Blacklist and RSG in the previous games, AP Bren sits comfortably in the 2nd spot just next to ECHO. Blacklist internationa needs to sweep the match to be able to secure the third spot over all as the score between AP Bren and Blacklist are far enough that AP Bren’s overall standing isn’t affected by the sweep. However, the powerhouse team still did not give Blacklist International the easy win as their games are just shy of 30 mins with multiple base defending fights. Ultimately, at the 28 min mark, with the help of the lord on Blacklist International’s side, BLCK wins the game over AP Bren in a 2-0 sweep, placing Blacklist International at 3rd place. Blacklist International and AP Bren move onto the playoffs.
