Cover Corporation recently announced that it is launching holo Indie, a new brand that will encompass “Derivative Work Games.” Along with this, Cover also revised its “Derivative Works Guidelines” to include independently developed games.
Over the past year or so, there have been some Hololive-inspired games that have taken the VTuber world by storm, including titles like HoloCure. Cover has usually been lenient with these fan-made titles, provided that they’re not released for profit.
Now though, with this new brand, Cover is making it easier for fans to publish indie games that feature Hololive talents. Through the new holo Indie brand, Cover will publish and likely promote indie games that feature Hololive VTubers.
With this, indie game developers may be able to get some monetization benefits, provided their game passes Cover’s screenings so that they are withing the company’s guidelines.

Speaking of guidelines, Cover also updated its “Derivative Works Guidelines” to cover games. This means creators can use monetizations schemes similar to how clips work. With this, fans who want to make Hololive games won’t have to worry about copystrikes so long as they follow Cover’s guidelines.
The first game that will be released under the indie brand is Holo Parade, a 2D tower defense game by Roboqlo that will be released on December 1, 2023.
