At the recent Galaxy Unpacked 2024 event, Samsung officially revealed the Galaxy S24 series. As with last year’s S23 lineup, this latest flagship series consists of three models: the S24 Ultra, S24+, and S24.
Based on the reveal, the theme for the Galaxy S24 lineup is AI as Samsung partnered with Google to add Google Cloud’s generative artificial intelligence (AI) technology to the phones. Specifically, Samsung will be the first Google Cloud partner to deploy Gemini Pro and Imagen 2 on Vertex AI via the cloud to the S24 devices. Gemini Pro will add enhanced summarization features across Notes, Voice Recorder, and Keyboard. Meanwhile, Imagen 2 brings text-to-image technology along with photo editing enhancements.
Meanwhile, the Galaxy S24 Ultra also features the Corning Gorilla Armor, a durable and even more scratch-resistant display cover material that promises better protection for the phone. On top of this, Corning Gorilla Glass Armor also reduces reflection by up to 75%, enhancing readability even when outdoors.
Speaking of the Galaxy S24 Ultra, this phone promises true flagship performance as it packs a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset to power it. As the latest in Qualcomm’s flagship SoC line, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 should deliver top-notch performance for gaming and productivity.
As always, Samsung’s displays promise to be class-leading for the S24 lineup, with the Ultra featuring an impressive 6.8-inch QHD+ Dynamic AMOLED 2X Display with a fast 120Hz refresh rate. The phone also has a large 5,000 mAh battery with up to 65% fast charging. Plus, the phone has an IP68 water and dust resistance rating.
Another interesting detail about the S24 Ultra is that it is the first Samsung flagship to feature a titanium frame, meaning it should be more durable and have better longevity.
As for its cameras, the Galaxy S24 Ultra features a quad camera setup consisting of a 12MP Ultra-Wide Camera (F2.2, FOV 120˚), a 200MP Wide Camera (OIS F1.7, FOV 85˚), a 50MP Telephoto Camera (5x Optical Zoom, OIS F3.4, FOV 22˚), and a 10MP Telephoto Camera (3x Optical Zoom, OIS F2.4, FOV 36˚). At the front meanwhile is a 12MP (F2.2, FOV 80˚) selfie camera.
With this setup, the S24 Ultra promises to be one of the best Android phones for photography.
Moving on to the Galaxy S24+ and S24, these two phones still promise to be capable flagships. Powering these two is the Exynos 2400 for Galaxy, Samsung’s in-house chipset that should still deliver great performance for gaming and more.
The phones also feature a triple camera setup consisting of a 12MP Ultra-Wide Camera (F2.2, FOV 120˚), a 50MP Wide Camera (OIS F1.8, FOV 85˚), and a 10MP Telephoto Camera (3x Optical Zoom, F2.4, FOV 36˚). Meanwhile, it has a 12MP Front Camera (F2.2, FOV 80˚) for selfies.
Both phones are also designed with recycled steel and Thermoplastic Polyurethane (TPU), and feature components with recycled cobalt and rare earth elements, meaning they should be more environmentally friendly to produce compared to previous generation flagships.
The key differences between the two are the sizes of the screen and battery. Samsung’s base S24 features a 6.2-inch FHD+ AMOLED screen and a 4,000 mAh battery. For comparison, the S24+ has a bigger 6.7-inch QHD+ AMOLED display and a 4,900 mAh battery. The S24+ also has faster charging support as it is compatible with a 45W adapter.
