The much-anticipated film from Studio Ghibli and Hayao Miyazaki, The Boy and The Heron is getting both an original Japanese audio and an English dubbed version to be released in PH cinemas. What was for a time, touted as the final film that Miyazaki would work on, The Boy and The Heron was shaping up to be the ultimate swan song. The Boy and the Heron tells the story of Mahito Maki who moves into a new town after the tragic death of their mother. Led on by a mysterious grey heron, he finds an abandoned tower and enters the fantastical world that awaits him inside.
The Boy and The Heron has already received numerous critical acclaim from fans and critics alike. It has won Best Animated Film from organizations such as New York Film Critics Circle, Los Angeles Film Critics Association, Boston Society of Film Critics, and more. It’s also been nominated for Best Animated Feature Film and Best Original Score by The Golden Globe Awards, and Best Animated Feature by the Critics’ Choice Movie Awards.

The film has already earned an impressive $13.2 million during its opening weekend, the biggest box office opening for a Studio Ghibli film.
The Boy and The Heron releases in PH Cinemas on January 8. A special fan screening will be hosted on January 6 at 7pm at SM Megamall, Cinema 2. Studio Ghibli goodies will be given away to those who will attend.
