Featuring a new technology streamlined heater, the Dyson Hyperdymium™ motor and intelligent Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) sensors in each attachment, users can automatically–and quite easily adjust the motor and heater to deliver optimal airflow and temperature.
This innovation meant doubling down on the core technology within the Dyson Supersonic™ hair dryer – particularly heater technology, motor performance, and attachments. The result is a professional hair dryer that is 30% smaller, 20% lighter, and more maneuverable.

The Dyson Supersonic r™ professional hair dryer’s form factor is unique. Ergonomically designed in a revolutionary ‘r’ curve, it weighs just 325 grams excluding the cable–essentially less than the weight of a standard 400ml bottle of hairspray.
The brand’s proprietary new heater technology is smaller, lighter and more power dense than conventional heaters which use open wire wrapped around mica boards. Dyson’s streamlined flow heater technology utilizes symmetrical foils which form a suspended track that delivers efficiency, through maximum exposure to the airflow, with minimum impact on the flow rate and performance.
The Dyson Supersonic r™ professional hair dryer is also equipped with intelligent heat control via a glass bead thermistor working in tandem with an embedded temperature sensor that measures air temperature over 20 times a second to prevent extreme heat damage and protect natural shine. The device also features integrated Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) sensors in each attachment, which automatically adjust the motor and the heater to deliver optimal airflow and temperature.
This professional hair dryer is also paired with three precise airflow settings and four heat modes, including constant cold shot, with ergonomically placed controls within a thumb’s reach and LED indicators on the handle. This handy design is optimal for stylists, as they can make use of the tool with ease without interrupting the styling session.
